„Can nursing students learn to give an intramuscular injection by utilizing an app?“

My talk will be focused on experiences of developing and piloting an innovative learning tool for practical skill training in European nurse education

Skill training is an essential component of nursing students’ education programs. However, it demands extensive teaching resources and students describe lack of confidence and anxiety when facing practical skills. Due to the lack of skill training centers in many European nursing educational institutions, we saw that it would be useful to develop new strategies to ensure that students are prepared for clinical practice.Together with teachers for University of Nottingham in UK and Catholic University of Valencia in Spain we have developed DigiSim Nurse Training  (available on AppStore and Google Play).

The DigSim app offers repetitive training of various essential nursing procedures. The app provides different learning choices in three languages. The goal for the app is to help students gain the clinical skill competence that is required for becoming a nurse.

Preliminary results from a pilot study indicates that the app provides a learning opportunity that is highly apricated both of students and teachers.
