The rising number of International study programmes across Europe along with the rapid DIGITISATION of learning and teaching over the last two years have helped overcome restrictions of location and time. Indeed, the INTERNATIONAL MINDSET of students and teachers, demanding an interchange of knowledge and experience, has driven collaboration in learning and teaching ACROSS VIRTUAL BORDERS. Let’s take collaboration in innovative learning and teaching practices online at the European level!

The COLLab-Conference invites teachers and developers from European Higher Education (HE) institutions to collaborate and share their experiences and ideas of innovative learning and teaching practices. The conference will provide not only an opportunity for the EXCHANGE of EXPERT VIEWS but also to EXPERIENCE a DIGITAL PLATFORM developed especially to provide a home for European Communities of Practice for innovative learning and teaching in HE.

This online-conference is free of charge.

What's planned?

Let’s CONNECT and COLLECT all our knowledge and experience, tools, techniques, methods and approaches in a unique space for SHARING and LEARNING from each other.

NETWORKING is the key to COLLABORATION in HE-teaching and will be the focus of this conference. Participants will MEET TEACHING-AWARD-WINNERS from different countries and LEARN about their ideas, efforts and achievements. JOIN in LIVE DISCUSSIONS with experts who will offer insights into their teaching contexts, methods and experience.

When is it scheduled?

Opening:

The COLLab-project seeks to support HE-teachers and developers to overcome challenges in learning and teaching in digital and international working environments. Paulo Jorge Ferreir, Rector at the University of Aveiro welcomes you to the COLLab Conference.

Prof. Lisa Looney, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Dublin City University, will lay the ground for this day of interexchange between HE-teachers by sharing her innovative and visionary ideas. She will give insights into her vision of the purpose and functions of higher education around the world as it might be thirty years from now.

The work of Silke Masson from the Centre for Quality Assurance and Development at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz (GER) could be described best with the phrase “Let’s start thinking of teaching as a cooperative task”. She will share her experiences and research results on learning communities of teachers with us as well as a framework to facilitate or even encourage teachers to work together.

Anita Sekyra (Center for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Saxony GER) started in April 2020 a very pragmatic and collaborative way to collect and discuss research results about learning and teaching during pandemic. In the joint keynote we would like to discuss with Anita how she coordinated such a collaborative project with person she never meets before, about struggles and learnings collecting data in such a manner and her finding about collaborative research.

In addition, Manuel João Costa, from the University of Minho (POR), who has been working a long while in building communities of practice in teaching and learning will join the discussion. His focus in the joint keynote will be the perspective of collaborative learning.

COLlab platform is structure in thematic hubs. Hubs are the space were discussions, events and sharing experiences take place. Join the hub administrators to a guided tour to one out of three hubs:

  • Challenge-Based Learning
  • Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)
  • Innovate Teaching and Learning.

Let us explore the hub features and start with first activities and discussions.
